Ingredients
  • 2teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 2tablespoons onionsminced
  • 1cup chicken stock
  • 1/2cup root beer
  • 1/2cup cider vinegar
  • 1/2cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/4cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3/4cup ketchup
  • 1/4cup brown mustard
  • 1tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2tablespoons liquid smoke

  2. Heat oil in saucepan over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Whisk in remaining ingredients, except for liquid smoke, and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until mixture is thick and has reduced to 2cups, about 1 hour. Stir in liquid smoke and serve. (Sauce can be refrigerated in airtight container for up to 1 week.) NOTE: If sauce is too thin you may add a cornstarch slurry to thicken.
